Music Room was established its first rehearsal studio in the basement of The Garden Gallery Monson Road New Cross Gate in 1985. This small basement studio famous for its toasted cheese sandwiches was frequented by many including Gong the Franco-British progressive/psychedelic rock band formed by Australian musician Daevid Allen. The old green shop front of the gallery and Music Room can be seen clearly in the 2004 movie Shaun of The Dead filmed across from the studio in the Duke of Albany pub (The Winchester) and in the street outside. Another claim to fame for the gallery back in 1985 was that Jim Moir now the comedian Vic Reeves worked there. See this page for more: THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS JIM One of Music Room’s most enduring rehearsal clients are ‘The High Llamas’ formed by guitarist and songwriter Sean O'Hagan introduced several rock legions to us at Music Room. Arthur Lee rehearsed with the Llamas back in Music Room’s Monson Road day’s around 1998. You can read more about Arthur's time in New Cross here
Lee Hazlewood (July 9, 1929 – August 4, 2007), rehearsed at the Music Room for his final European tour circa 2001 at our current location and was accompanied by his friend the late great guitar player Al Casey (The Wrecking Crew, Elvis Presley etc). Lee returned for his last gig, the Heroes & Villains Festival at the Royal Festival Hall in 2004. Music Room eventually took over the entire building in Monson Road and moved into PA, instrument and back-line hire in 1988. We later moved to the former New Cross Library an Andrew Carnegie building in 1994 and created five rehearsal studios. Incorporating in 2003 we became known as Music Room London. Since the early days Music Room's business has expanded into most aspects of live performance & event production.
