MUSIC ROOM LONDON – BUSINESS & OPERATIONS MANAGER

Music Room London is looking for a hands on, highly driven Business and Operations Manager with strong, positive leadership skills and the ability to command respect, engage, motivate and gain commitment from others.

Based at Music Room London HQ in New Cross Gate, SE14, you will quickly become a key decision maker within the business, focusing on improving all aspects of our business and productivity whilst keeping the satisfaction and well-being of our staff, customers and suppliers a priority.

Music Room London is an independent rehearsal studio and events production company, trading since 1985. In addition to events and studio hire we hire and sell PA, lighting and other music related equipment.

The right candidate will have a flexible can-do attitude, outstanding people management and communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure and the desire to work as part of a team to help us deliver exceptional client service and make the business grow.

Our working week is organised around a monthly shift pattern (including evenings and weekends), and you will need to be willing and flexible on hours from time to time. The music business is not Monday to Friday, 9-5.

Primary Responsibilities of the Post

  • Key responsibility for smooth running of all aspects of the business
  • Building, nurturing and developing client relationships
  • Developing further work opportunities (events, production, hire and sales and other)
  • Input into our pricing structure, ensuring we undertake profitable work which is competitively priced
  • Preparation of sales quotations, tenders & budgets
  • Responsibility for project budgets and competitive pricing, ensuring target margins are being met
  • Carrying out of site visits / venue assessments
  • Practical operation and overseeing of the firm’s accounting software (Xero and EPOS Till)
  • Overseeing and managing our online presence, including our online shop ‘MrGigShop’ and social media sites.

You will have the following personal and professional qualities and expertise:

  • Ability to lead and to command respect with authority whilst retaining a friendly disposition
  • Knowledge of and experience in working in a business environment with reference to the primary responsibilities for this post
  • Experience of working in the music business and technical and practical knowledge/expertise in event production, PA sound and lighting equipment
  • An ability to lead positively, and to accept responsibility
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and to be an active member of the team
  • Ability to adapt promptly and think practically and creatively
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good organisation and numerical skills
  • Ability to travel to and from our SE14 Studios out of hours and possibly at short notice if required

You will also be expected to ‘muck- in’ on other aspects and this includes some or all of the following –

  • Moving/loading equipment
  • General organisation of our warehouse – keeping areas clear of debris, making sure stock is organised correct areas and is tidy and uniform
  • Helping with the preparation of equipment for events, or inspection
  • Checking of equipment coming back from events
  • Assisting the movement/cataloguing/rigging and de-rigging of equipment in and out of rehearsal studios
  • Driving when required
