The Luke Purbrick Octet is an eclectic ensemble that blends a range of personalities to offer a fresh perspective on Luke's music. Known for his intimate, highly improvised quartet performances, Luke pushes further into his love for composition with this expanded, through-composed approach. Drawing influence from iconic composers such as Bill Frisell, Maria Schneider, and his classical interests, Luke's style is exemplified in his arrangement of Ravel’s "Tres Doux."
Since studying at Trinity Laban, Luke has led several diverse ensembles over the years. His journey has included the LP Quartet, which performed at prestigious events like the Swanage Jazz Festival and Love Supreme. He also formed Morse Contact, a bassless trio featuring guitar, drums, and euphonium, as well as a quartet with vocalist Kora Williams, exploring the music of Joni Mitchell and one with Hans Koller playing the music…
