We are pleased to announce the revival of Deptford Cinema’s Film and Book Club in 2023!
Film: An Angel at my Table, dir. Jane Campion. Again, you can view the film on Mubi. It was originally made as a TV series with three episodes so can be watched in three sittings.
Book: Faces in the Water by Janet Frame. The film is Campion’s adaptation of Frame’s autobiographical trilogy, which you are welcome to read but I thought it would be interesting to read an example of her fiction, and her novel, Faces in the Water, set in a mental institution, is based on some of her experiences we see in the film. I’m a big fan of her short stories too - if anyone wants to read more of her fiction, I recommend The Daylight and the Dust collection.
