Morse Contact is an ensemble of three musicians studying together at Trinity Laban, featuring Cameron Scott on euphonium and trombone, Joe Bainbridge on drums and Luke Purbrick on guitar.
Taking inspiration from many jazz performers, including the Paul Motian Trio which also played without a bass player, they will be performing two sets of exciting original music, as well as exciting arrangements of their favourite tunes.
In 2022 Luke previously performed with his group, "The LP Quartet" at Love Supreme and the New Generation Jazz Festival, and their performance at the latter was featured in the Jazzwise festival review. They were described as "Extremely deft in this early stage of their evolution as they find their own voice within the legacy they’re learning and ones to watch."
Cameron Scott recently won the Trinity Laban Gold Medal for his achievements in big band composition and arrangement, however in this small band setting he plays interchangeably between soloist and accompaniment, on euphonium and trombone. The improvised counterpoint between the guitar and euphonium allows for fluctuating textures and harmonies, leading to spontaneous arrangements and interactions.
Holding it all together, Joe is an accomplished drummer with experience playing with the great American saxophonist JD Allen. He's the backbone to the ensemble, and his love for heavy grooves provides the drive to the group.
