Raie was born in Scotland and came to London when she was 17 years of age
Raie focused on being a young Mum to her son Ben before training at drama school in her late twenties; she moved into a music career writing for theatre and dance and also sang background vocals for bands like the KLF (The White Room album) and Orchestre Jazira (Top of the Pops) - performing on stages with the likes of Dudu Pukwana for Tyne Tees Jazz Festival as well as performing in two 'a cappella' quintets ... all before realising she could write 'songs'!
Raie worked the London Indie circuit with guitarist and writer Dan Cochrane then shifted to a bigger band set up, releasing her debut single ‘Talkin Bout You’ in 2010 with Peter J Pinto
It wasnt too long before Raie gained the support of award winning engineer / producer Wes Maebe. He co-produced her first EP Earthbound with a host of internationally celebrated artistes – Ralph Salmins, Hugh Wilkinson, Jon Klein and the legendary Elliott Randall as well as young and gifted Manley O'Connor; check out the EP on my Soundcloud and Spotify here on the website
Since then Raie has performed in venues such as The Forge, The Albany Theatre, Camden Roundhouse, Club Floridita, and Hammersmith Apollo and a host of London music clubs and pubs; check out some of the live video footage on youtube here on the website
Raie's first album - This Music Thing - was 'birthed' at GMS studio in SE London with Wes at the helm - engineering and producing the full album; Wes brought in a host of wonderful players including Jon Klein (Specimen, Siouxie and the Banshees, Sinead O'Connor) and Chris Bell (Specimen, Thompson Twins, Hugh Cornwell)
Jordan Brown and Jamie Coe also came on board the album after almost two years of touring with Raie and her background singers Nazarene (ten years with Raie) , Nathan Devonte, Abdul Shyllon, Bukola Abdul and Evie Rose Smith were in the studio; Raie also featured singer songwriter Kevin Mark Trail (The Streets) and London celebrated spoken word artiste LyricL; she also invited young talents into the studio - Jo Eaton Kent on violin, Rick Leigh on flugelhorn and Tom Chudley Evans on accordion and banjo
