About the event

Sarah L King is gaining recognition on the London jazz scene as a silky voiced vocalist with a warm stage presence, and a repertoire that includes accomplished original songs as well as beautifully interpreted standards & some funk & soul influence.

Her assured grasp of many jazz standards comes from the early influence of her father, a jazz trumpeter, & this could also explain the beautifully soulful and heartfelt phrasing she conjures, to make songs very much her own. Sarah has released an accomplished EP of covers What’s New, as well as several original singles, and is currently working on her debut original album due in 2022.

Sarah started singing in soul & gospel choirs, with several solo performances backed by renowned musical arranger Mike King's community choir (MCS), at the Albany Theatre, Deptford, & Festival Hall, Southbank, before emerging as a solo artist, studying jazz singing under Lee Gibson at Mehr Clef School UK, & City Academy & Morley College London. In 2019 she formed her first band Kicking Mules & had an 8 month residency in a London Jazz Bar, and gigged regularly across London. During Lockdown she turned her talents to writing & recording, and continued to work closely with her trusted musicians, producing & releasing music. This led to the Sarah L King Quintet, with regulars including some of London’s finest, James Buckham piano, Jakub Cywinski bass & Tom Clarke drums.
